"Heterondon nasicus" -Art Print by Noah Bounds
This acrylic painting features a Western Hognose Snake inspired by a JMG Color Blast specimen. On canvas, I took a few creative liberties to enhance the composition, including a Variegated Fritillary butterfly (Euptoieta claudia) and Indian Blanket flowers (Gaillardia pulchella), both of which naturally overlap the Western Hognose’s range in western Oklahoma. The snake’s distinctive upturned snout and color pattern are highlighted alongside these regional flora and fauna, creating a harmonious interplay between animal and habitat. The painting emphasizes texture, light, and movement, capturing the subtle drama and visual rhythm of a snake in its environment while celebrating the beauty of local wildlife.
